The Respect of Hazrat Sa’eed bin Zaid (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) for Hazrat Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)

It is reported that on one occasion, a person came to Hazrat Sa’eed bin Zaid (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) and said, “I possess such great love for Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) in my heart that I do not love anything else as much as I love him.” Hazrat Sa’eed bin Zaid (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) commended him for his love and respect for Ali (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) saying “That is excellent! You possess love in your heart for a person who is from the people of Jannah (as Hazrat Ali (radhiyallahu anhu) was granted the glad tidings of Jannah by Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) while he was still in this world).”

This person thereafter said, “I have such hatred in my heart for Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) that I do not hate anything else as much as I hate him.” Hazrat Sa’eed bin Zaid (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) told him, “You have done evil and wrong by having hatred for Uthmaan (radhiyallahu ‘anhu)! Know well that you have hatred in your heart for a person who is from the people of Jannah (as Hazrat Uthmaan (radhiyallahu anhu) was also granted the glad tidings of Jannah by Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) while he was still in this world).”

Hazrat Sa’eed bin Zaid (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) then narrated a hadith of Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and mentioned, “On one occasion, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) ascended Mount Hiraa whilst he was accompanied by Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthmaan, Ali, Talhah, and Zubair (radhiyallahu ‘anhum). The mountain began to tremble and shake (out of excitement over the fact that these great personalities are standing on it).

“Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) addressed the mountain saying, “Be still, O Hiraa, for upon you there is only a Nabi, a siddeeq and a shaheed.”” (Usdul Ghaabah 3/578)
