Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) Honoring the Azwaaj-e-Mutahharaat (radhiyallahu ‘anhun)

Hazrat Aslam (rahimahullah), the slave of Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), reports that Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) had nine special platters reserved for sending gifts to the Azwaaj-e-Mutahharaat (respected wives of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and mothers of the ummah).

Hazrat Aslam (rahimahullah) mentioned that whenever any delicacy, fruit or meat would come to Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), then he would make nine shares, place them on the nine platters and respectfully send them to the Azwaaj-e-Mutahharaat.

He would send the first eight platters to the other Azwaaj-e-Mutahharaat and would send the last platter to his beloved daughter, Hazrat Hafsah (radhiyallahu ‘anha).

At times, if there was a slight shortage in any platter, he would send this platter to his beloved daughter, Hazrat Hafsah (radhiyallahu ‘anha), and ensure that the other wives of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) received the full platters. In this way, Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) gave preference to the respected wives of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) over his own family. (Muwatta Imaam Muhammad #405)
