On account of the difficulties and hardships that the Muslims were being subjected to, some of the disbelievers, who were compassionate at heart, thought of breaking this resolution to boycott the Banu Haashim.<\/p>\n
The first person who had this thought was Hishaam bin Amr. Hishaam bin Amr took this thought to Zuhair bin Umayyah (the grandson of Abdul Muttalib) and said to him, \u201cO Zuhair! Does it please you that you are able to eat what you wish, wear what you wish and marry whom you wish, while your mother\u2019s brothers (the banu haashim and Banu Abdil Muttalib) are longing for just a few grains to eat? By Allah! If Abu Jahal\u2019s uncles and maternal relatives were suffering these hardships, then he would never tolerate and accept this resolution.\u201d<\/p>\n
Zuhair responded, \u201cUnfortunately, I am alone. What difference can one person make? If I could just find one more person who shares my sentiments, then I would stand up against this resolution.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hishaam bin \u2018Amr stood and left Zuhair, heading towards Mut\u2019im bin \u2018Adiyy. On meeting Mut\u2019im and speaking to him, he also convinced him that the resolution was unjust and needed to be broken. After agreeing with him, Mut\u2019im shared the same feeling as Zuhair saying, \u201cConvince another person to join us and support us.\u201d Accordingly, Hishaam next went to Abul Bakhtari, and thereafter to Zam\u2018ah bin Aswad, and convinced them to support breaking the resolution.<\/p>\n
When these five people were ready and agreed to break the resolution, then they unanimously said, \u201cTomorrow, when all the people have assembled, then we will raise the issue.\u201d From all of them, Zuhair volunteered to commence the discussion.<\/p>\n
The following morning, when all the people had assembled in the musjid, Zuhair stood and addressed the people saying, \u201cO people of Makkah! It is extremely lamentable and shameful that we are able to eat, drink and wear what we wish, and marry whom we wish, while the Banu Haashim are dying from starvation. By Allah! Until this oppressive and malicious resolution is not torn apart, I will not sit.\u201d Hearing this, Abu Jahal retorted, \u201cThis resolution of god can never be torn apart!\u201d<\/p>\n
However, Zam\u2018ah bin Aswad then declared, \u201cBy Allah! It will definitely be torn apart! Even at the time when this resolution was being written, we were not pleased with it!\u201d Abul Bakhtari next voiced his support saying, \u201cZam\u2018ah is speaking the truth! We were also unhappy with the resolution.\u201d Mut\u2019im then added his voice saying, \u201cUndoubtedly, these two are correct!\u201d Hishaam bin \u2018Amr then further supported what he said.<\/p>\n
When Abu Jahal saw the direction that the gathering had taken, he was surprised and remarked, \u201cIt would seem that they already made this decision last night.\u201d<\/p>\n
In the meantime, Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) informed his uncle, Abu Taalib, that besides the names of Allah Ta\u2018ala, ants had eaten the entire document on which the oppressive resolution was written. With the exception of \u2018Bismikallahumma\u2019, which would be written at the beginning of every document, the ants had eaten all the other letters.<\/p>\n
Abu Taalib came to the Quraish and informed them of what Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) had mentioned saying, \u201cThis is what my nephew says, and my nephew has never spoken a lie, nor has any claim that he made until today proven to be false. Come, let us make a decision. If the claim of Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) is correct and is proven to be true then you should cease this persecution. If his claim is false then we are prepared to hand him over to you. You may then kill him if you wish, or let him live if you wish.\u201d<\/p>\n
The people agreed saying, \u201cO Abu Taalib! You have made a fair and just proposal.\u201d They then sent for the document.<\/p>\n
When the document was brought and the people saw it, then they found that besides the name of Allah Ta\u2018ala, all the other words had really been eaten by ants. Seeing this, they all lowered their heads in shame and embarrassment. In this manner, the oppressive resolution was finally terminated.<\/p>\n
In this manner, three years of continuous suffering came to an end, and in the 10th year of prophethood, three years before hijrah, the Muslims emerged from the Valley of Abu Taalib.<\/p>\n
