{"id":683,"date":"2025-02-17T05:05:08","date_gmt":"2025-02-17T05:05:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theillustrioussahaabah.com\/?p=683"},"modified":"2025-04-30T05:07:38","modified_gmt":"2025-04-30T05:07:38","slug":"hazrat-abdur-rahmaan-bin-auf-radhiyallahu-anhu-spending-wealth-for-the-expedition-of-tabuk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theillustrioussahaabah.com\/?p=683","title":{"rendered":"Hazrat Abdur Rahmaan bin Auf (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) spending Wealth for the Expedition of Tabuk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-23180\" src=\"https:\/\/ihyaauddeen.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/English_105_6-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"618\" height=\"618\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When Allah Ta\u2019ala commanded Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) to set out for the expedition of Tabuk, many Sahaabah did not possess sufficient means at that time to undertake the long and arduous journey, especially when they were expecting to meet the Roman army in combat, who were well-equipped and large in number.<\/p>\n<p>Hence, in order to mobilise and prepare the army, Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) exhorted the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhum) to spend wealth in the path of Allah Ta\u2019ala. Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) encouraged them to assist those who did not have the means to take part in the expedition and he promised them that in lieu of this assistance, they will receive great reward from Allah Ta\u2019ala. In this manner, many poor Sahaabah (radhiyallahu \u2018anhum) were given conveyances and equipment for the journey.<\/p>\n<p>Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbaas (radhiyallahu \u2018anhuma) narrates:<\/p>\n<p>On that occasion, among the Sahaabah who contributed the most wealth was Abdur Rahmaan bin Auf (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu). He spent two hundred Uqiyah of silver (eight thousand silver coins).<\/p>\n<p>At that time, Hazrat Umar (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) remarked, \u2018O Rasul of Allah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam)! I think Abdur Rahmaan (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) did not leave anything behind for his family.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) then addressed Hazrat Abdur Rahmaan bin Auf (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) and asked him, \u2018Did you leave anything behind for your family?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>He replied, \u2018Yes, I left for them much more than what I had spent and what I left for them is really better for them!\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Rasulullah (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) then asked him \u2018How much did you leave for them?\u2019 He replied, \u2018I left for them the promises of Allah Ta\u2019ala and His Rasul (sallallahu \u2018alaihi wasallam) of receiving goodness and sustenance (when sacrificing for the sake of Deen).\u2019<\/p>\n<p>From this incident, we see that Hazrat Abdur Rahmaan bin Auf (radhiyallahu \u2018anhu) and his family sacrificed all the wealth they possessed on that occasion for the sake of Allah Ta\u2019ala.
