Salamah bin Tammaam (rahimahullah) narrates:
A few days before the demise of Abdullah bin Mas’ood (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), a man came to meet him. After meeting him, the man said to him, “O Ibnu Mas’ood! Last night, I saw you in a dream. In the dream, I saw Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) seated on a pulpit while you were seated before him on the ground.
“Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) addressed you and said, ‘O Ibnu Mas‘ood, come to me, for the people have not treated you well (after I left the world).’”
This dream was an indication that the time for Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ood (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) to leave this world was close.
After the man mentioned the dream to Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ood (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ood (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) asked him, “By Allah, did you really see this dream last night?” The man replied, “Yes, I saw this dream last night.”
Upon this, Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas‘ood (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) said to the man, “I request you to remain in Madinah Munawwarah for some while and only leave Madinah Munawwarah after you participate in my janaazah salaah.”
A few days later, Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ood (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) passed away and his Janaazah salaah was performed in Madinah Munawwarah. (Usdul Ghaabah 285/3)
