Hazrat Abu Zar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) Honoring the Guests

‘Isa bin ‘Umailah (rahimahullah) narrates from a person who had seen the conduct of Hazrat Abu Zar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) with his neighbours and guests. He mentions:

“Whenever Abu Zar would milk his goats, he would first give the milk to his neighbours and guests to drink and thereafter he would drink from the milk.”

One night, I saw Abu Zar milk his goats to the point where there was absolutely no milk remaining in their udders. He then presented the milk to his guests and also placed a small amount of dates before them.

He thereafter apologized to them for not giving them anything else to eat as he did not possess anything else at that time, he addressed them saying, “If we had anything better than this, we would have definitely presented it before you.”

I had observed Abu Zar on that night and I had seen that he did not eat even a single morsel but presented everything he had to his guests. (Siyar A‘laam min Nubalaa’ 3/399 & Ibn Sa’d 4/178)
