Hazrat Zubair (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) once mentioned:
“Indeed, Talhah bin ‘Ubaidillah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) keeps the names of the Ambiyaa (‘alaihimus salaam) for his children, whereas he knows that there will be no Nabi to come after Nabi Muhammed (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). Hazrat Zubair (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) then said, “I keep the names of the martyrs (of the Sahaabah) for my sons so that my sons may perhaps also be blessed with martyrdom.”
Thus, Hazrat Zubair (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) named his son ‘Abdullah after Hazrat ‘Abdullah bin Jahsh (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) (who was martyred in the battle of Uhud).
He named his son Munzir after Hazrat Munzir bin ‘Amr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) (who was martyred in Biru Maoonah).
He named his son ‘Urwah after Hazrat ‘Urwah bin Mas‘ood (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) (who was killed by his people when he invited them to Islam).
He named his son Hamzah after Hazrat Hamzah bin ‘Abdil Muttalib (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) (who was martyred in the battle of Uhud).
He named his son Ja’far after Hazrat Ja’far bin Abi Taalib (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) (who was martyred in the battle of Mu’tah).
He named his son Mus‘ab after Hazrat Mus‘ab bin ‘Umair (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) (who was martyred in the battle of Uhud).
He named his son ‘Ubaidah after Hazrat ‘Ubaidah bin Haarith (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) (who was martyred in the battle of Badr).
He named his son Khaalid after Hazrat Khaalid bin Sa‘eed (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) (who was martyred in the battle of Marjus Safar or Ajnadeen).
He named his son ‘Amr after Hazrat ‘Amr bin Sa‘eed bin ‘Aas (radhiyallahu ‘anhuma) who was martyred in the Battle of Yarmuk.
